About the artist: Mary Beth Maisel creates unique monotype prints by printing on a plate of gelatin. Use of color and texture allow her to express her delight in her surroundings, and her work often includes nearby familiar trees as well as travels and memory. Her watercolors are painted primarily on location, allowing her to share a sense of immediacy and connection.

Born in Missouri in 1940, Mary Beth majored in Russian studies and discovered art at Randolph-Macon Woman's College (1958-62). In the mid 1980's she studied artmaking and since 1989 her work has been widely exhibited, including solo shows at the Fuller Museum of Art and North Central Missouri College. She has won awards in juried shows at the Cambridge Art Association, the Newton Art Association, and has been in numerous juried shows including Artcetera, DeCordova Museum's Art in the Park, Cambridge Art Association, Concord Art Association, Two Collection of the Channel Two Auction, as well as non-juried events including the SMFA December Sale where she is a Medici Artist, and Newton Open Studios.

Her work is adventurous, colorful, immediate, humorous, contemplative. Her goal is too capture a feeling and invites the viewer to complete the story. Her Newton MA studio, where she also teaches, is open by appointment. She can be contacted by email at MaryBeth.Maisel@verizon.net or through her website, www.MaryBethMaisel.com .
