About
the Artist: Stephen Boczanowski, former
K-12 art director for the Marshfield Public Schools for 34
years, began his career as a commercial artist for several
advertising agencies and graphic design studios in Boston. He
graduated from the Boston Museum School and Tufts University, and
later received his M.S. degree in art education from Massachusetts
College of Art.
Stephen paints familiar New England scenes,-- busy downtown locations,
and buildings, like “North End Morning,” and shoreline scenes -- boats,
docks, and cottages -- like “Beachside Cottages,”and “Fishing Fleet”.
He likes using acrylics because they give an exaggerated richness of
color to his paintings. Colors in acrylics appear to be brighter,
and like many artists, he prefers them because they dry faster and have
many advantages over slower-drying oils. In his paintings of city
streets and older building facades, he adds brilliant tones that
enliven these images.
Stephen has done more artwork since he left his teaching position
and he enjoys having more time for painting . As an art educator,
he tries to practice the concepts he taught his former students.
Boczanowski continues to teach evening courses in Desktop Publishing,
Photography, and Computer Art at Providence College in Rhode Island.
For many years, Stephen has been active in the Cape Cod Art
Association, and has won several first and second prizes in some
of their shows. He’s also a member of the North River Art Association
based in Marshfield, the Duxbury Art Association, and the South Shore
Arts Center in Cohasset.
Stephen’s work has been featured at Dickerson Art Gallery-Weymouth,
Crump and McCole Gallery- Boston, South Shore Conservatory- Hingham,
The Back Bay Framery-Boston, Boston City Hall, and MASSPORT
Gallery in Boston. - Originals and giclee prints are available.
