The Guild offers a wide variety of classes and workshops throughout the year for adults and kids of all ages.

ADULT ART CLASSES (age 16+)

 

MONDAY 9/13-10/18 (6 classes)

*Classes will take place on the Columbus Day holiday or may be rescheduled

if that is the choice of the instructor and students.

 

Introduction to Pastels with John Nutter

#1101 M 12:30-3:30 pm $145m/$160nm 

New and continuing students will learn the fundamentals of drawing and pastel painting through demonstrations and group critiques. Using still-life and photographs as references, students will create paintings that emphasize form, structure, color, value and perspective. Limit 8 students.

 

Beginning/Intermediate Watercolor with Mary Callahan

#1121 M 1:00-4:00 pm $140m/$155nm      

Designed for all levels of the watercolorist.  This course will provide the fundamentals and then explore the many techniques of watercolor.  Work from still life set ups, photos, or your imagination.  Emphasis will be on creating an organized emotional statement.  Limit 10 students

 

Beginning to Intermediate Drawing & Painting Instruction with Edwina Caci

#1116 M 2:30-5:00pm $160m/$175nm   Drawing is a key to successful artwork. This instructor focuses on giving each student individual attention in order to improve drawing skills and guide the completion of the artwork in charcoal, pencil, and or oil/acrylic/watercolor paint.  Students choose their own subject matter as they work from still life, photos of their choice, or portrait. Bring materials that suit your medium.   Limit: 8 students

 

Introduction to Silversmithing: Beginner Sterling Silver Jewelry

with Mary-Lou Montagna

#1122 M   (PLEASE NOTE: 4 CLASSES) 9/13, 9/20, 9/27 & 10/4 7   7:00-8:30pm 

$145m/ $160nm plus   $50 supply fee

Beginners will learn basic bench skills for silversmithing while working in sterling silver wire. Techniques will include sawing, filing, sanding, piercing, forging, planishing, buffing, etc.  Projects will include a band ring, a forged ring, a pendant, a pair of earrings depending on students’ interests.

Limit 10 students

 

Abstract Expressionism with Sarah Bates Washburn

Students learn to “step outside of the box” by exploring a variety of painting techniques in order to create successful, well balanced pieces of abstract art. Limit 8 students.

 

TUESDAY 9/14-10/19 (6 classes)

 

Advanced Pastel Classes with John Nutter

Learn the use of textured paper stocks like Kitty Wallis paper, colorfix paper and watercolor paper to enhance your pastel paintings. We’ll explore the application of rubbing alcohol, gessoes and grounds. We’ll combine a base of watercolor, acrylics or thinned-out oils before we add our pastel layer. Let fun and imagination be your tools.

 

Ceramics A-Z (wheel-throwing optional) with Julie Papageorge

Beginners to advanced students will enjoy this exciting studio class that allows opportunity to explore clay process, object making, glazing and surface decoration. Limit: 7 students

 

How To Draw What You See with David Johnson

Learn to see in a way that improves all of your drawing, painting and creative expression. Gain confidence by learning to prioritize what is seen in visual order to improve your drawing and painting skills.   Limit 12 students.

No Stress Oil Painting with Bettyann M. Lemist

Understanding oil painting does not have to be stressful nor complicated.  Learn in an easy and relaxed setting how to begin an oil painting and follow through to completion.  Glazing in translucent layers will also be covered. Bring a photograph as a reference from which to paint.  Limit 10 students.

Wednesday Morning Watercolor with Mary LoPiccolo

Advanced beginners and beyond are welcome.  This instructor’s reputation in watercolor and instruction precede her.  Sign up early to avoid disappointment.   Limit 10 students.

Paint Your Own Welcome Slate  with Terry Kole (16+)

Terry Kole will share her secrets and her slates from Holland.  Learn to paint your own welcome slate for your entry door, and paint another for your kitchen, bathroom, and garden or hobby room.  Bring your own craft/acrylic paints and paintbrushes.

Basic Drawing with John Nutter

Students will learn to build their drawing skills through understanding of the importance of shading, values and structure.  Individual attention will help students create drawings based on still-life objects and photographs.

 

Wildlife Illustration with Terry Kole

#1420  W 4:30-6pm  $85m/$95nm

Learn the basics of drawing animals, pets or the incredible wildlife around you.  Create a detailed portrait of the animal of your choice.  Your instructor has a series of wildlife illustrations that first ran in the Detroit News and then, as limited edition lithographs, have been sold to people around the world.

 

Fine Tuning Drawing/Values with Bettyann M. Lemist

#1429  TH 6:30-9:30 pm  $155m/$170nm

Brush up on the finer points of drawing values from black to white.  This introductory/refresher course stresses the importance of understanding values to produce a successful image. You may work in graphite pencil or use black and white paint to create the values in your photograph or reference from which you draw/paint. Limit 10 students.

 

Oil/Acrylic Painting with Doro Simone

Students choose to work from oils or acrylics in this course designed for all experience levels. Learn the basics of painting or challenge yourself and bring skills to the next level. Individual attention is emphasized. Limit 10 students.

Basic Watercolor with Lilly Cleveland (ages 16+)

Whether you want to paint for journaling, relaxation or creating masterpieces, this course is for you.  Learn about supplies, color, composition and techniques as you complete a still life, landscape, monochromatic, or work from photographs. Limit 10 students

 

Oil Painting with Dianne Panarelli Miller

#1505 F 10:00 am-1:00 pm $165m/$180nm   Beginning to advanced students will benefit from this “alla prima” (all-in-one-sitting) class. Dress for the weather!  Subsequent to exercises and demonstrations about color, composition and technique, students will paint outside if weather permits.  If not, we will paint from still life, using a full color palette. Limit 12 students.

 

 

SATURDAY  9/18-10/23 (6 classes)

 

Creating Unique Landscapes in Watercolor with Becky Haletky

This class is for beginning to intermediate students with an emphasis on color, light and composition.  Class will paint on location in several ocean, pond and garden locations, weather permitting.  Learn to interpret in your own style with lots of one-on-one encouragement.  Limit 10 students.

ADULT WORKSHOPS (age 16+)

 

 

Pastel Workshop  with Christine Bodnar 

#1626 SA 9am-2pm (1 class) (1 hour lunch break) Oct.2   $60m/$70nm 

This one-day workshop is designed for the intermediate pastel painter who loves painting the landscape and wants their work to stand-out with a personal style and to develop a better understanding of design

and composition within the painting space. Students will learn to approach the space with a stronger sense of composition with the use of line and color producing a more interesting painting. Pictorial composition, value relationships, visual perception, and dealing with one’s own intuition as a painter will be emphasized.  A short demonstration will begin the class showing students how the instructor approaches her own work.  Max. 12 students           

 

Psycho-Symmetry  with Jill Voelker 

#1218 T  Ages 16+ NOTE:  2 CLASSES  Oct. 5 & 12th  6:30 – 9:00pm   $40m/$50nm

All teens and adults can do this spontaneous, revealing, relaxing, surprising, stress-free art form.  Psycho-symmetry provides balance, proportion and harmony in a unique creative art exercise that develops before your eyes as your psyche explores the “unconscious playground” of your mind and spirit.
